Salem Vampire History.

The opening of Vampfangs’ flagship store in 2018, the debut of the Endless Night Salem Vampire Ball in 2019, and the launch of Maison Vampyre in 2021, have all set the stage for a continued resurgence of the Vampyre Witch as an integral part of the fabric of Salem’s Magick Community.

Salem’s very first Vampyre Psychic Parlour, located at One Derby Square is now open to the public. This first of its kind psychic parlour gives visitors a rare glimpse into the lesser known tradition of Vampyre Magick. Guests are invited to experience personal or group readings from members of the local Vampyre community. The Setting.

“Maison Vampyre is elegant and uniquely themed- a perfect backdrop for such a personal, dark, and private experience. The character of the building is simply beautiful,” says Alexis Pharae, Vampyre, reader, and Co-Owner of Vampfangs and Maison Vampyre. The two reading rooms are unique for Salem. The spaces are truly private and serene. The decor is simply beautiful, with a collection of elegant, comfortable seating for you to sink into and enjoy your private time.

Paranormal Activity at One Derby Square.

Pharae, along with fellow readers June Jennings and Kris Gurky report having paranormal experiences inside of the 1816 building. “It’s such an honor to practice my craft in such an active location. It’s truly an amazing experience,” said Jennings. “Each of us have had our own experiences with the energy here,” she continued. Local haunted walking tours also stop frequently at One Derby. It is widely known as one of the most  haunted locations in Salem.

Downstairs from Maison Vampyre, in Wicked Good Books, merchandise has been known to fly off the shelves as if thrown by an invisible assailant. Phantom voices are heard and shadows pass. Built in 1817, the location changed many names and owners, but most notably, it housed several taverns over the ages. Rumors place it as a speakeasy during prohibition times, a perfect spot for tired merchants and sailors to kick up their feet and grab a drink in secrecy. There are also rumblings and rumors that the upstairs had been a brothel… the women and their clients using Salem’s smuggling tunnels to go about unnoticed.

Remains Found.

In 2013, renovation crews found skeletal remains inside a tunnel in Wicked Good Book’s basement. The identity of this person remains unknown, but one can’t help but wonder who they were, and just how they met their end in the dark, dusty subterranean tunnels of Salem. This is just one example of the lost souls that fuel the haunting of One Derby, perhaps still trying to tell their tale to the living.

Whoever they were, they still make their presence known alongside a slew of other spirits and shadows. Downstairs, employees have reported poltergeist activity. Upstairs, members of the Maison Vampyre team have seen multiple apparitions of men and women. Shadows dart past or appear in mirrors and doorways before seeming to vanish. Strangest of all, an unusual, uneasy energy manifests at the top of the staircase.
