History of 244 Essex
244 Essex Street, Salem, MA
Our location at 244 Essex Street in Salem, is a Greek Revival structure built around 1834. Over the years, this area has been a bustling commercial hub, reflecting Salem's rich maritime history and evolving economic landscape. Once a charming corset shop and later a shoe store, today, 244 Essex Street houses Vampfangs, a boutique that certainly would have been taboo in the 1800s. The building stands as a testament to Salem's enduring charm, seamlessly integrating its historical architecture with contemporary enterprises. Looking closely, however, one can see the building as it looked when built in 1834 for Thorndike Proctor as a mixed use residential, commercial building.
